Woodpecker Junior Pallet Nailing Machines

The Woodpecker Junior: The Original Single-Operator Pallet Nailing Machine

New & Improved for 2025!

The 2025 model features updated controls for easier and safer operation, plus a redesigned jig that allows for better control of various stringer heights, and the ability to build pallets with stringer spacing of 6″ on-center.

The Woodpecker Junior is a highly efficient, single-operator pallet nailing machine—and the original of its kind. Designed with the operator in mind, it presents the pallet at an ergonomic angle, automatically nails the deck boards, and includes a built-in pallet stacker. While others have tried to imitate our design, nothing matches the performance and reliability of the Woodpecker Junior.

The first machine was produced by Stutzman Manufacturing in 2010 under the name “Nail Mate.” In 2014, the first true “Junior” with an integrated stacker was introduced. Since then, we’ve continually refined and advanced the Woodpecker Junior, making it the industry’s leading single-operator solution. With every generation, it has become easier to use, more reliable, and more durable—a proven staple in the pallet industry.

Every Woodpecker Junior is hand-crafted to order by our dedicated team of builders and delivered with the latest innovations. We listen closely to our customers, always striving to improve, so that each new machine is stronger, smarter, and better than the last.

Woodpecker Junior nailing machines are not affiliated with any other machine manufacturers or their representatives. All machines are designed and manufactured by Stutzman Manufacturing in Ohio.

Woodpecker Junior Standard

The standard Woodpecker Junior is engineered to work seamlessly with the optional linear pallet stacker and rollout conveyor, positioned directly behind the nailing machine. Equipped with everything an operator needs, it delivers the speed, precision, and consistency required to build high-quality pallets with ease. The only difference between the standard model and the right-angle version lies in the pallet stacker design.

Perfect for manufacturers producing 48″ x 40″ pallets and more, the standard Junior is a versatile solution for a wide range of applications. It excels at building combo pallets (with new runners and reclaimed deck boards) as well as new pallets made from both softwood and hardwood. Reliable, efficient, and proven in the field, the standard Junior is a top choice for pallet manufacturers across the industry.

Standard Junior Models:

  • 54″ L x 56″ W (pallets up to 54″ x 56″)
  • 54″ x 72″ W (pallets up to 54″ x 72″)
  • All machines include four stringers as standard.
  • 56″ W models can be built with an optional 5th stringer clamp.
  • 72″ W models can be built with an optional 5th and 6th stringer clamp.

Standard Features & Benefits

Production Expectations & Operators

  • Production varies with pallet configuration, operator work ethic, and lumber quality.
  • Typical production rates when building GMA pallets are 500 pallets per shift.
  • The Junior can be equipped with an optional short cycle feature for pallets that have stringers that are 30″ or less. The short cycle feature provide even greater efficiency.

Lumber Types

  • The Junior is flexible and works well with many types of lumber.
  •  Softwoods & Hardwoods.
  • #1 and #2 grade lumber.
  • Reclaimed lumber:
    • Reclaimed deck boards are a good fit for the Junior. We recommend the lumber be sorted prior to getting to the nailing machine.
    • Reclaimed runners are not recommended unless they are well sorted and free of nail stubble.

Nails and Nail Guns

  • All of our nailing machines utilize pneumatic nail guns and 15-degree high-load/large coil nails.
  • Typical nail sizes range from 1-3/4″ to 3″, and diameters between .099 to .131, application-dependent.
  • If you have experience with bulk nails and hydraulic nailing systems, but not with pneumatic nail guns and coil nails, please contact us to learn more

Custom Sizes & Solutions

  • We can modify the Junior to build different specifications.
  • Our standard machines are capable of building several different specifications out of the gate.
  • 24″ L x 26″ W, 3-stringer pallets are the minimum.
  • With the optional 5th stringer clamp, we can build 5-stringer pallets that require the outside runners to be 6″ on-center.
  • Ink coders are available for the standard machine stacker. The ink coders can apply a 1″ tall character or stamp, or an optional 2″ tall character or stamp.

Woodpecker Junior Right-Angle

The Right-Angle Woodpecker Junior is designed to pair with the optional right-angle pallet stacker and rollout conveyor.

This model is the ideal solution for manufacturers with limited floor space who can’t accommodate the Standard Junior’s orientation, or for those producing single-face skids.

For added flexibility, the Right-Angle Junior can be equipped with the optional flip-and-nest stacker feature. This upgrade allows operators to seamlessly switch between building single-face skids and standard pallets—quickly, easily, and only when needed. It’s a versatile option that adapts to your production requirements.

Right-Angle Junior Models:
  • 54″ L x 56″ W (pallets up to 54″ x 56″)
  • All machines include four stringers as standard.
  • 56″ W models can be built with an optional 5th stringer clamp.
  • Right-angle models can’t be modified for 72″ W.

Standard Features & Benefits

  • The right-angle model includes all the same features & benefits of the standard model.
  • The right-angle model includes the ability to build standard pallets and single face skids. With the flip of a switch, the nailing jig can be operated for just the top of the pallet. The pallet stacker will stack the single-face skid with the stringers down.

Flip & Nest Feature (optional)

  • The flip and nest feature can be turned ON or OFF so the stacker can be used for standard pallets, single face skids that don’t require nesting, and single-face skids that require nesting.
  • The flip and nest stacker can be adjusted for various sizes, including various wing sizes and various stringer widths.

Production Expectations & Operators

  • Production varies with pallet configuration, operator work ethic, and lumber quality.
  • Typical production rates when building GMA pallets are 500 pallets per shift.
  • Single-face skid production rates are typically faster than standard pallets. Typical production rates for a 48″ x 48″ SOD skid are 600 to 800 skids per shift.
  • The right-angle Junior can be equipped with an optional short cycle feature for pallets that have stringers that are 30″ or less. The short cycle feature provides even greater efficiency. **This option is not recommended for single face skids, and/or the flip and nest feature
